Frequently Asked Questions

Students whose degree programme includes a compulsory internship component must follow their programme requirement in terms of which internship module can be read. Students exempted from internship may choose, if desired, to take either one of the modules as Free Electives. An extended candidature may result from taking the semester-long Industrial Attachment as a Free Elective.

Students who have read either module would have fulfilled the learning objectives of internship. Students may not register for another internship module but they may do multiple internships without credits. Non-credit internships may be applied through NUS TalentConnect facilitated by the Centre for Future-ready Graduates.

The internship module must be taken and completed within a continuous period of 12weeks (VIP) or 24 weeks (IA) with the same host organisation.

The stipulated internship periods would have to be followed with the exception of participations in exchange programmes supported and endorsed by the University wherein the following conditions must be ensured with due diligence done by the student:

  1. The SEP policy must be adhered to, and
  2. The internship must commenced no later than 5 days from the date in which the SEP ends, and
  3. The internship must commenced within 3 weeks from the stipulated period for BEng internship, and
  4. The minimum duration of the internship must be fulfilled prior to the start of the new academic semester, and
  5. The internship host company accepts the adjusted internship dates.

When the new dates are accepted by the company, the student is to inform in writing to enginternship@nus.edu.sg of the new internship start and end date. Information regarding mass updates of the internship periods for students on exchange programmes will be informed via email.

Internships taken during the mid-year and year-end vacation periods may be taken on a non-credit basis. Please refer to the Centre for Future-ready Graduates at nus.edu.sg/cfg/students/internships for information and support regarding non-credit internships.
