Engineer Girl 2017

Engineer Girl 2017

NUS Engineering proudly presented the 2017 edition of our annual Engineer Girl workshop, targeted at Secondary 1 and 2 Girls. By introducing Engineering and Physics concepts through hands-on activities in non-traditional forms, we hope to retain and heighten their interest towards Science.

NUS Second-year Electrical Engineering Student, Adrian giving an overview of the activities lined-up.

This workshop introduced basic elements of electricity, allowing the participants to build working circuits through use of simple adhesive elements in the form of circuit stickers. Participants were also encouraged to explore and build reactive elements into a craft project of their choice, through a competition between schools.

The Engineer Girls (to-be) working hard on their craft!
Why make your design in 2D when you can make it in 3D?
Now that’s a butterfly that we don’t usually see!

This workshop was first introduced in 2014 and proved to be very well received amongst the 58 participants on 13 November 2017. We hope that we can bring this experience to more female students of this age group by intriguing them with the process of self-exploration and creation.

Second Runner-up: Team Firefly from NUS High School of Math & Science
First Runner-up: Team Jigglypuff from Nanyang Girls’ High School
Overall Champion: Annabelle from Raffles Girls’ School (Secondary)
See you next year at Engineer Girl 2018!
