Khiang-Wee LIM has been the Executive Director of CREATE (Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise) since August 2013. The campus is an international, multidisciplinary research campus where 7 international universities work with Singapore universities on 15 research programmes funded by the National Research Foundation of Singapore.
Prior to his current appointment, he was the Executive Director of the A*STAR Graduate Academy (A*GA). A*GA oversees A*STAR’s talent development through scholarships, fellowships, collaborative and Outreach Programs. He was concurrently the founding Executive Director of IPI-Singapore. The mission of IPI-Singapore, setup in 2011, is to catalyse intellectual property intermediation activities that support and enhance the innovation capacity of Singapore enterprises to develop and optimise their businesses, products and services.
Dr Lim graduated in Electrical Engineering from the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur and obtained a DPhil in Engineering Science at Oxford University. He completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School in 2004. He has held academic appointments at the University of New South Wales in Sydney and at the National University of Singapore where he was concurrently head of the Division of Power Engineering and the Associate Dean at the University’s Office of Research. He has consulted for industry in Sydney and in Singapore and worked as a development engineer at Motorola Penang.
At A*STAR, he served as the Executive Director of a research institute from 2002 to 2010, leading the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) and the Institute for Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE). He was also a member of the founding leadership team at the Science and Engineering Research Council from 2001.
He is currently an Adjunct Professor of the Institute for Engineering Leadership at National University of Singapore; a Trustee of Singapore’s newest university – the Singapore Institute of Technology; a member of the Engineering Accreditation Board of Singapore; a Director of Singapore-Hebrew University of Jerusalem Alliance for Research and Enterprise Ltd; a member of the NUS High School for Science and Mathematics Board of Governors, the Mechanobiology Institute of Singapore Governing Board, Singapore Synchrotron Light Source Governing Board.
