The Faculty’s Annual Appreciation Dinner was held at the Kent Ridge Guild House on 17 January 2019. The dinner saw a turnout of 150 guests from industry and alumni.

In his welcome address, NUS Engineering Dean Professor Chua Kee Chaing thanked the guests for the gifts received in 2018 and their continued support. He shared that the Faculty received many gifts in the form of bursaries to support needy students. For example, the Class of 1976 stepped forward to raise fund to help needy students to participate in NUS Overseas College, Student Exchange Programmes and Industrial Attachment.   When the Faculty started its campaign to raise funds for 100 scholarships in 2018, the Class of 1983 gathered several classmates to support the call.  Through a reunion dinner and charity golf organised, the Class raised $150,000 for the scholarship fund.

At this year’s dinner, four bursary recipients spoke about their learning journey and how the financial aid received enabled them to overcome their challenges.  The guests also had the opportunity to view the appreciation penned by student recipients who were unable to attend the dinner.

Ms Patricia Lim, Vice President of the NUS Chinese Orchestra and a gift recipient herself, led the musicians to perform five pieces of self-arranged music including two renditions of Chinese New Year songs.  Sweet music to end the night of deep appreciation.
