A first for the NUS Environmental Engineering team at the 2018 WEF competition

NUS Environmental Engineering team comprising PhD students Xu Dong (team leader), Li Rui, Lu Lu and Goh Jun Wei represented Singapore at the Water Environmental Federation (WEF) Student Design Competition held at WEFTEC 2018, New Orleans, USA on 30 September 2018.  The team is the first and only one outside of North America to win a Design Competition Award at the competition.

In addition, Li Rui received the Process Challenge Award, while Jun Wei, who received his B.Eng (Environmental Engineering) degree in 2018, represented the team to present on the integrated design for ultrapure water production from electronic product effluent to achieve zero-liquid discharge.  The team is supervised by Prof Hu Jiangyong, Prof Ng How Yong and Prof Ong Say Leong from NUS Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The WEF Student Design Competition, organised by the Water Environmental Federation in the USA, is a well-known international competition in the field of water and wastewater treatment design. A total of 23 winning teams, selected from preliminary contests, participated in the final round of the 2018 WEF Student Design Competition.
