Notes:

Students reading modules with LABS are to take note of the dates of their lab sessions. Please refer to the timetable for more details.

Students registering for the Language Preparation Programme (LPP) must ensure that it does not clash with their course programme timetable.

Students who have not done or need to re-take year 1 core modules are to register for the module via our E-Form latest by 29 July 2008. Do note that this is subjected to availability of vacancies. Therefore, applications received after deadline will NOT be entertained. Those who have successfully secure the module are required to ballot for the tutorials and labs in CORS. For CS1101C Lab, please register at SOC's website.


 
  2. English Modules
 


EG1413 Critical Thinking & Writing is a faculty requirement, i.e. you need to pass this module in order to graduate (except for Polytechnic direct entry students).  It would be in students' best interest to read this module as soon as possible.

The pre-requisites of EG1413 are:-

-          General Paper (GP) in the Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘A’ Level : B4 or better ('AO' Level GP)

-          General Paper (GP) in the Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘A’ Level : C or better (H1 Level GP)

-          Knowledge Inquiry (KI) in the Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘A’ Level: D or better

-          General Paper (GP) in the International-Cambridge ‘A’ Level : C or better

-          General Paper (GP) in the High School Certificate (HSC) :C or better

-          SAT : 750 and above (reading & writing) and 10 and above (essay)

-          IELTS : 8 and above (overall) and 8 and above (writing & reading)

-          TOEFL : 115 and above (internet-based); or 280 and above (computer-based); or 650 and above (paper-based)

-          International Baccalaureate (IB) Theory of Knowledge: C or better

-          English Language paper at the New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 Examination (Previously known as the New Zealand University Entrance Bursaries and Scholarships Examination): Score of more than 50%

 

Students who do not meet the minimum grade for GP are to sit for the Qualifying English Test (QET).

-          Students who pass QET (in Band 5 and 6) will be eligible to read EG1413.

-          Students who fail the QET (in Band 3 and 4) will have to read and pass EG1471 in order to be eligible to read EG1413.

-          Students who fail badly (Band 1 and 2) are required to read and pass ES1000E before they are allowed to read EG1471 and finally EG1413.

EG1413 Critical Thinking & Writing

EG1413 should be taken by students who:

  • have passed EG1471 English for Academic Purposes
  • are required to re-take EG1413
  • are in their senior years (year 2, 3 and 4) who have not done EG1413 - Please note that this module is a programme requirement; you need to pass this module in order to graduate.

If you wish to read EG1413 in this semester, please register for the module via our E-Form latest by 31 July 2008.

In the event that all classes are full, students may choose to read EG1413 in the following semesters.

Students on University Scholars Programme (USP) may choose to replace EG1413 with relevant Writing & Critical Thinking USP Modules.
 

EG1471 English for Academic Purposes
Pre-allocation will be done for students who are required to read this module, including re-take students.
In the event that all classes are full, the module will be pre-allocated to students in the next semester.

Notes:
EG2401 Engineering Professionalism
This module is a Faculty Requirement.  Students have to pass this module in order to graduate.

The module is open for bidding via CORS from Round 1A onwards from all Year 3 and Year 4 students Year 2 students may start bidding for this module from Round 2A onwards for the remaining vacancies.

Students who have successfully secured the module will ballot for the Tutorials via CORS.
 

HR2002 Human Capital in Organizations

Students on IA
Students on IA may choose to read HR2002 in the evening during their IA period.  There are 50 places available:

Evening Classes Available:
EV31 - Wednesday, 6pm to 9pm [50 places]

As these evening classes are not available for bidding, please register for the module via our E-Form latest by 30 July 2008.

Details of Registration:
1. Places will be allocated based on first-come-first-served basis.
2. 1 bid point will be deducted at the point of pre-allocation.
3. Students who have been pre-allocated HR2002 and wish to withdraw from IA and/or HR2002 must drop HR2002 on their own via CORS. Bid points will not be refunded, unless HR2002 is dropped during the "F" grade period.
4. Module will be added to students in CORS upon approval.
5. Registration closing date is 30 July 2008.  Late application will NOT be considered.

Students on IA may also read other evening modules.  Please refer to the IA website for more details.

Regular Returning Students
The following returning students who wish to read HR2002 have to bid for the module via CORS from Round 1A onwards. Bids placed in Round 1A will be considered as advance bids.

  • ISE3 & ISE4
  • MLE4

The module will only be opened to other students if there are vacancies at a later time.  Announcement will be made via email if vacancies arise.
