Faculty Enhancement Programmes

See note below**

* All modules are available on S/U option unless the faculties offering them indicate otherwise.
**
Faculty Enhancement Programmes are S/U or CS/CU by default and will not be counted towards CAP. Please refer to FAQ No.(7) below.

If you need more information about the guidelines on Module Declaration, please refer here.

  5. When can I exercise my S/U option?

When can I exercise my S/U option?

  • With effect from AY2007/08, the S/U declaration exercise will take place after the release of each semester examination results for modules read in that semester. It will be conducted in the immediate 3 days following the release of results.

  6. SARS Module & the S/U option

The SSM1205 (The Nation's Health: Lessons from SARS) is a multi-disciplinary Singapore Studies module, which consists of 6 lessons and is available only through the IVLE. Students who complete all 6 lessons will receive 1 MC and the S or U grade.

  • For students matriculated in AY2001/2002, SSM1205 will not affect your entitlement of 2 ULR modules on S/U.

  • For students matriculated from 2002/2003 onwards, SSM1205 will be counted towards your 12 MCs entitlement on S/U.

  7. Modular Credits (MCs) earned from Enhancement Programmes

  • For Students matriculated in AY2004/05 & AY2005/06, modular credits earned under Industrial Attachment Programme (IA) and Vacation Internship Programme (VIP) will not be counted towards the 12 MCs allowed under S/U Option. New grades known as 'Completed Satisfactory' ('CS') and 'Completed Unsatisfactory' ('CU') will be awarded for these 2 modules upon completion.  These modules are not counted towards your CAP.

  • For Students matriculated from AY2006/07 onwards , modular credits earned under all Enhancement Programmes (incl. IA, VIP, Technopreneurship & Incucbation Programme (TIP), Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme (UROP), Innovation Programme (IP) & Independent Work Programme (IWP)) will not be counted towards the 12 MCs allowed under S/U Option. New grades known as 'Completed Satisfactory' ('CS') and 'Completed Unsatisfactory' ('CU') will be awarded for these modules upon completion. These modules are not counted towards your CAP.

  • In order for CS/CU MCs to be counted within the FoE degree requirement, they must be taken to fulfill the UEM requirement.

  • For information on maximum MCs that may be excluded from CAP to fulfill degree requirements, please refer to FAQ No.(1) to (3) above depending on your matriculation/registration cohorts.

  8. SARTOR Modules - can they be taken on S/U basis?

  • Students who have matriculated in academic years 2004/2005 and earlier, they are required to read the SARTOR modules on graded basis.

  • Students who have matriculated in academic year 2005/2006 and onwards could take the modules on S/U basis. Polytechnic graduates matriculated in 2005/2006 are required to read the SARTOR modules on graded basis, unless otherwise advised by your department. Please refer to #7 below.

  9. Polytechnic Graduates - which set of policies to follow?

For most departments, Polytechnic graduates are admitted directly into 2nd year and hence will follow the curriculum and policies of the preceding cohort. For example, polytechnic graduates who are admitted in Academic Year 2005/2006 will follow the curriculum and policies of the 2004/2005 cohort. If you are unsure about whether you are admitted directly into 2nd year, please check with your department.

  10. If I have declared 10 MCs on S/U basis, can I declare another 4MC module on S/U basis?

In practice, a student may be allowed to opt for an additional module to be taken on S/U basis as long as his/her accumulated S/U MCs is less than 12. For such a student, the total number of S/U MCs will eventually exceed 12. Nonetheless, only a total of 12 S/U MCs will be counted towards his/her degree requirements (i.e. any excess S/U MCs will not be counted towards any part of the degree requirements).

  11. Am I allowed to declare a Technical Elective (TE) module which I am taking to fulfill as Unrestricted Elective Module (UEM) on S/U basis?

In general, yes unless the departments offering them indicate otherwise. For example, ME students are allowed to declare a TE as a UEM and then S/U it ONLY IF the TE is the student’s 6th TE. Students have to attain at least 24 MCs of TE modules before they may UEM one of their TEs.  Please verify with your dept if you are in doubt.

In addition, a TE module when declared as UEM can be converted back to their original module type at any point during your candidature in NUS via the Online Degree Requirement Check (DRC). However, a Technical Elective (TE) when declared as a UEM and opted on S/U cannot be converted back to TE. Grading for TE has to be graded only.
