As of AY 2007-2008, the OUR
Prize is launched and this university-wide competition for the best
undergraduate researcher(s) will be held annually.
a) Objective of the OUR Prize
Competition
The objective of the OUR Prize
Competition is to encourage research among undergraduates at NUS by
presenting opportunities for them to participate in research while
integrating teaching and research at various levels of experience and
expertise which allows undergraduates to develop the capacity for
discovery through research.
Through this competition,
undergraduates will have more meaningful experiences at university by
fostering learning through hands-on work; developing research skills to
use in courses and other academic and professional pursuits; identifying
academic and career interests; learning about a new field; developing
working relationships between classmates and faculty mentors; and provides
them a glimpse of graduate life.
b) The Competition
Guidelines
i.
Entry Type & Application:
- either by individual category or by group category (if by group, no
more than 5 members per group).
- submit
only one entry to each category (if student participant is submitting more
than one entry in the same academic year).
- Application must be
done through the Faculty.
ii.
Candidates' Eligibility:
-
full-time matriculated undergraduates (including honours
students) at NUS with Faculty’s support on the merit of the
project.
iii.
Project Type:
- credit-gaining
coursework-based projects or independent non-credit-gaining non
coursework-based projects.
iv.
Evaluation Criteria:
1. Originality and
significance of the project.
2. Clear understanding of the
subject.
3. Evidence of critical and
independent thinking.
4. Other points of merit on
the project.
c) Value
and Type of Prizes for Winners
The University will be
awarding the following prizes to the winners:

* The prizes awarded must be
used towards participation in related activities/programmes which includes
overseas/local conferences/workshops, leadership seminars or any such
related activity approved by the Faculty/School that are deemed to add
value to a student's education and overall development.
A maximum of 15 prizes is awarded each year by the
University.
