Modular Credits
First-Tier modules will be assigned four modular credits each. The minimum number of modular credits required by a Scholar to obtain his/her degree will follow that of the respective Faculty as required for their respective cohorts. Please see Faculty Handbook for respective cohort requirements.
Faculty Requirement:
HR2002 Human Capital in Organizations [3 MCs]
Exemption is granted for USP students who have done the First-Tier module UHB2201 Human Relations: Values, Attitudes, and Social Cognition
| 2004/2005 cohort onwards |
University Scholars Programme Requirements
First -tier modules [32 MCs] |
Replaceable modules in Faculty of Engineering
Total number of MCs exempted must not exceed 32.
Same replacement possible as of Cohort 2002/2003. |
| Advanced Modules [16 MCs] |
Total number of MCs replaced must not exceed 16.
Same replacement possible as of Cohort 2002/2003.
Students from cohort AY2004/2005 onwards may now consider the following three tracks:
(A) Academic Inquiry, which is further divided into two sub-tracks:(a) Research-intensive programmes, (b) Multidisciplinary programmes;
(B) Cultural Immersion;
(C) Entrepreneurial Development;
ACADEMIC INQUIRY TRACK: Students are encouraged to make use of existing curricular structures in the Faculties, such as UROP (FoS, FoE*, SoC), ISM, Enhanced Curriculum (under consideration by FASS), Project Research (SDE). However, it must be emphasized that the USP Advanced Curriculum requires a sustained and coherent programme that the students themselves play a key role in putting together.
In general, the new curriculum requirement is more flexible in the sense that undergraduates can now do more than two independent study modules and are strongly encouraged to do so, students should bear in mind that the approval for registering for more than two ISMs depends upon the submission of a suitable study plan, and upon the availability of independent study supervisors. In relation to this, study plans should take into account the existing curricular structures.
* As UROP at FOE (EG1605) is assessed on the S/U basis, it is thus not appropriate for fulfilling a USP Advanced module requirement. Nevertheless, students may identify a topic from the UROP listing and read it under the USP ISM framework, thus ensuring that the research project will be undertaken at an advanced level and assessed on a graded basis.

University Scholars Programme Requirements
First -tier modules [32 MCs]
|
Replaceable modules in Faculty of Engineering
Total number of MCs exempted must not exceed 32.
Same replacement possible as of Cohort 2002/2003. |
Advanced Modules [16 MCs]
Package of CBMs and ISMs (at least one ISM) |
Total number of MCs replaced must not exceed 16.
Same replacement possible as of Cohort 2002/2003.
For cohorts matriculated in 2003 and onwards, there is more flexibility in the Advanced Curriculum. The number of CBMs and ISMs may be varied for fulfilling the Advanced Modules requirements. As a coherent package of study, there should be at least one ISM and each Advanced Module is typically worth 4 MCs. Up to the first two ISMs may count towards the student's major requirements (major essential or major electives).
For students who chose to read a third or fourth ISM, it is necessary to consult the home faculty on how these may count back towards the graduation requirements. Approval is on a case-by-case basis to count back as faculty requirements (as either faculty elective requirement or unrestricted elective) although it is likely that the third or fourth ISM will be counted towards the unrestricted elective requirements.
CBMs are meant to help students to broaden their knowledge in the domain of study related to their specialization. Hence, a student should read CBMs in his or her discipline-related basket i.e. Group B CBMs as offered by Engineering, Science and School of Design and Environment.
CBMs can range from level 2000 to 5000. CBMs read will count towards a student's faculty requirements (as either faculty elective requirement or unrestricted elective). They are not intended to replace modules in the major unless approval is granted by the Dept Advisor (in consultation with Undergraduate Office).

SARTOR3 Requirements
All FoE students must fulfil SARTOR3 Requirements which consist of 1 HRM + 2 Business/Management related modules.
USP students may be exempted from HRM (see above for exemption of HR2002). Because there are business/management
modules in their core curriculum, Civil Engineering and Industrial & Systems Engineering students would have fulfilled
SARTOR3 requirements if they take 1 HRM or USP equivalent. Students from other departments are required to take
another 2 Business/Management modules.
USP students may be exempted from these 2 modules if they take another 2 modules (besides the HRM alternative)
from the following USP modules:
