University of Toronto CANADA Semester IRO Student Remarks : 1) The University of Toronto operates one city campus (St. George) and two suburban campuses (Mississauga and Scarborough). 2) The main campus at St. George is located in downtown and most exchange students prefer to study there, but housing is very limited and thus NOT guaranteed. Exchange students are accepted at either the University of Toronto Scarborough or Mississauga campuses can get on-campus housing. However, they must go for either the full academic year or the second (winter) term. They may not go for only the first (fall) term. 3) Program NOT open to exchange students include Dentistry, Management (MBA), Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. ECE courses are heavily over-subscribed and may be difficult to get.
Concordia University CANADA Semester IRO Student Remarks : 1) Limited access to courses in business (finance and accounting), communications studies, journalism; cinema, digital design, animation (in Fine Arts) and electrical, mechanical, software/computer engineering (in Engineering & Computer Science). Most courses in Fine Arts run for the academic year (September - May). Film Animation/ Film Production/ Studio Arts must attend for full year.
University of Alberta CANADA Semester IRO Student Remarks : (1) Restricted Courses: Medicine; Dentistry; Pharmacy (unless within the Pharmacy exchange program); Criminology; Computer Engineering; The course called BUS 201 is not open to exchange students; Some Business courses, mostly in Accounting. 2) 2 sem places preallocated for FOS. 2 sem places preallocated to FOE. Only 3rd year FoE students should apply.FOE students should only apply when they are in their 2nd year and have completed 2 semesters of study at NUS. 1st year students will not be accepted. FOE students must apply only in their SECOND year because first year transcript needed and partner university has only one application deadline with strong demand for engineering courses, so if the transcript is late, the student will be rejected. 3) No SOC students. 4) Both faculties of Business and Engineering do not allow exchange students to register in their courses unless they are admitted to that faculty for exchange.
University of Ottawa CANADA Semester IRO Student Remarks : 1) Students from NUS can take part in an exchange for one semester, 4 months (September to December or January to April) or for two semesters, 8 months, that is a regular academic year (September to April). The participation period indicated on the application form upon receipt of the applications cannot be modified after the arrival of students to the University of Ottawa. 2) Exchange students can register in French as a Second Language (FSL) courses at no extra costs. Students must clearly indicate on their application form their desire to take one FSL course. The choice of French as a Second Language course is determined by a placement test found online. The result of the placement test will then indicate to you a list of courses corresponding to your level. 3) Faculties not open to exchange students: School of Management, Faculty of Education, and Faculty of Medicine. Courses not open to exchange students: Interpretation courses (School of Translation and Interpretation), Department of English at the Master's level and courses offered by the Engineering Management Program. 4) The University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) is compulsory for all international exchange students. 5) Files from prospective candidates must be sent by the international offices of partner institutions to the attention of the manager. We ask candidates not to send their files themselves.
University of Waterloo CANADA Semester IRO Student Remarks : 1) Exchange students are required to pre-select their courses at UWaterloo when completing their UWaterloo on-line exchange application in order for it to be processed. 2) Generally, exchange students are not able to self-enroll in courses, even though the course add/drop option will appear on their Quest account (student registration system), since exchange students are registered as "non-degree" students, and their previous academics are not recorded in the system. 3) To ensure that students' schedules are processed in a timely manner with minimal scheduling conflicts, please advise your students of the following 3 steps before they make their initial course selections on their on-line exchange application form: i) View course descriptions at http://ugradcalendar.uwaterloo.ca/ (undergraduate) or http://gradcalendar.uwaterloo.ca (graduate) and have courses pre-approved for credit transfers at their home institution prior to applying for the exchange. ii) Review the schedule of classes at www.uwaterloo.ca/course.php iii) for course offerings during each term iv) to avoid scheduling/timetable conflicts with course selections v) NOTE: Some courses may include supplementary tutorials (TUT) or labs (LAB) in addition to the lectures (LEC). When reviewing the schedule of classes and evaluating time conflicts, students should consider these items as well (if applicable). vi) Select 5-7 courses per term allowing for a couple of back-up courses in the event that restrictions or scheduling conflicts arise.
University of Calgary CANADA Semester IRO Student Remarks : 1) LAW: Calgary's Law faculty will only accept full-time Law students who have completed at least 1 full year of Law courses (preferably more) with a B average grade. They must also study law full-time while in Calgary - they cannot just take 1 or 2 Law courses and take the rest of their courses from other faculties. 2) FoE: Exchange students have had some difficulties getting Engineering courses so they must be prepared to take some electives while at Calgary. However, Biomedical Engineering courses are relatively accessible. 3) FoS: Math classes widely available. 4) BIZ: Business courses at Calgary are only reserved for business-specific exchanges (NUS's agreement with Calgary is u-wide) 5) Courses in the Haskayne School of Business are restricted and registration is not guaranteed. Courses in the Faculties of Medicine, Nursing, Education, Environmental Design, Masters of Business Administration and Veterinary Medicine are not open to exchange students. McGill University CANADA Semester IRO Student Remarks : 1) Limited enrollment for McGill's School of Architecture, but more flexibility for January (Sem 2). Applicants must submit an up-to-date portfolio. 2) Limited Enrollment for Mcgill Engineering programs.
University of British Columbia CANADA Semester IRO Student Remarks : 1) Not all programs will be available to exchange students, so students and academic advisors are strongly advised to refer to the Student Exchange Program Manual for Exchange Advisors and Students which can be downloaded from UBC website. 2) Nominated students are eligible to apply for the NUS-UBC Lee Foundation Student Exchange Awards to finance their studies at UBC. 3) Please pay attention to UBC course restrictions on UBC website.http://www.students.ubc.ca/global/coming-to-ubc/academics/choosing-courses/ 4) Some UBC departments may also be very rigid about having exchange students maintain a maximum courseload cap of 15 credits (5 courses), which means that NUS students may not be permitted to overload.ENGINEERING Faculty Remarks : Nominated students are eligible to apply for the NUS-UBC Lee Foundation Student Exchange Awards to finance their studies at UBC.
Tongji University CHINA Semester IRO Student Remarks : (1) Tongji University is particularly famous for its Civil Engineering and Architecture programs. Its Civil Engineering, Architecture programs and Transportation Engineering are ranked Top 1 in P.R. China and its architecture program is by far the most difficult to gain entry into. As one of the state leading centers for scientific research, the university has 5 state key laboratories and engineering research centres. (2) Pre-allocated places for FOE and SDE only. (3) Restriction for SEP students - Classes offered by the Chinese-German Institute for Applied Sciences
Xi'an Jiaotong University CHINA Semester IRO Student Remarks : (1) Comprehensive university with strengths in engineering and management. Also offers courses in Humanities, Social Sciences, Management, Economics and Finance, Architecture and Medicine. Shanghai Jiao Tong University CHINA Semester IRO Student Remarks : (1) Its strengths lie in Engineering, Management and Sciences. (2) Areas of expertise: Communication & Electronic System, Metal Plasticity Processing, Computer Science, Optical Fiber Technology, Systems Engineering & Management. (3) Shanghai Jiaotong University provides free accommodation to 5 NUS students. Students will be studying at Minghang campus.

Sichuan University CHINA Semester IRO Student Remarks : (1) It is a comprehensive university offers courses in Economics, Law, Arts, Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, Architecture, Business and Social Sciences. (2) SoC students can choose subjects offered by College of Software Engineering whereas SDE students can choose subjects offered by College of Architecture and Environment. Modules describtions may not be readily available on the website, however, IRO staff can help to approach the host departments for necessary advice.
Xiamen University CHINA Semester IRO Student Remarks : (1) Its strengths lie in law, humanities, social sciences, natural science, engineering, technology, management, architecture, life science, and economics. (2) XMU is very strong in life science and mathematics. NUS Dept of Life Science has a joint laboratory with XMU. (3) BIZ students can either choose subjects from their School of Economics which offers finance, banking, international trade, economics & statistics or from their School of Managements which provides accounting, management sciences and business management.

Tsinghua University CHINA Semester IRO Student Remarks : (1) Comprehensive university with emphasis in engineering. The University of Pennsylvania can not guarantee access to courses in the Wharton School of Business to NUS exchange students. Please note that it will be possible for NUS students to transfer credits from BU equivalent to the regular 20 MCs (5 courses) per semester which students would normally obtain at NUS. This transfer of credits would be dependent on the approval by the respective faculties and departments of the BU modules/ courses selected by the student for their exchange.
