About Us

Introduction

Minerals, metals and new materials (MMM) are gaining prominence in the world economy due to the rising cost of oil and rapid industrialization in many parts of the world. As such, mining and mineral processing industry is witnessing a re-birth globally, including Asia Pacific which has rich reserves of many minerals and natural resources. The development of MMM industries in Singapore is expected to provide engineering and R&D support to other related industries such as aeronautical engineering, mineral processing, energy technology, offshore engineering, microelectronics, automobile, sports, semi-conductor manufacturing and bio-medical technologies.

Mission

The mission of the Minerals, Metals & Materials Technology Centre (M3TC) is to adapt scientific discoveries and to develop engineering solutions to technological problems in related to these areas. The Centre will strive to contribute to the economy through development of world class technologies, providing well-trained manpower, high level consulting support to industry and transfer of technology in the Asia Pacific region. It aims to serve as an interface between industry and academia with the goal of utilizing the internationally recognized multi-disciplinary capabilities of the Faculty of Engineering at the National University of Singapore to promote value-added R&D in these sectors.

To be recognized globally for excellent relevant and focused science and R&D capability supporting sustainable development in the minerals, metals and materials sector.

Objective

The key objective of M3TC is to develop a world class technology centre and to provide a one-stop high quality professional services to companies interested in the development of natural resources, innovative materials and metal processing technologies.

M3TC has the following specific objectives:
• Promote growth of these industries via R&D and manpower skills enrichment programs.
• Establish constructive and convenient platform for networking amongst different industries, universities and research institutes.
• Develop carefully identified core and strategic research ventures which should result in new knowledge generation and IP creation.
• Provide one-stop solution centre for relevant industry.
• Facilitate transfer of technology and know-how for the benefit of local and regional industries.
• Establish certification and standard testing facilities for relevant industrial sectors.
