AY1998/1999

Normal Stream Poly Students - direct admissions to Year 2

Required to fulfill 2 CFMs (6 to 8 MCs)

All students have to take 1 free CFM and BZ1001. Both modules must attain 6 to 8 modular credits (MCs). 

Human Resource Module

As you will be taking BZ1001, you are required to do Understanding Human Relations in the New Economy (HR2002) instead of the Interpersonal Relations - Theory and Practice (HR2001).

No CFM requirements except for EE students who have to take 2 CFMs.

AY1999/2000

Normal Stream Poly Students - direct admissions to Year 2

Required to fulfill 3 CFMs (9 to 12 MCs)

These students would have taken EC1310 or EC1311 in Year 1, which will count as 1 CFM with 4 MCs.

2 more free CFMs.

  • You may choose to take both CFMs from the approved list of CFMs offered by other faculties or;

  • You may choose to take BZ1001 in year 4 (highly recommended) where timetable has been scheduled and places are guaranteed PLUS a free CFM from the approved list. 

Human Resource Module

For students who read BZ1001, you will be required to do Understanding Human Relations in the New Economy (HR2002).

For students who do not take BZ1001, you will do the Interpersonal Relations - Theory and Practice (HR2001).

Pro-rated CFM requirement of 2.

Will follow the requirements of Normal Stream 1998/1999.

1 Free CFM and BZ1001.

A total of 6 to 8 MCs must be attained.

AY2000/2001

Normal Stream Poly Students - direct admissions to Year 2

CFM requirement - 20% of curriculum

This batch of students are supposed to read 10 modules in humanities, business, law, social and life sciences, which includes: 2 Technical Communications, 3 Compulsory CFMs, 1 Law, 1 Human Resource Management and 3 Free Choice CFMs.

The 3 compulsory CFMs that will be read in Year 1 includes:

  1. A National Education Module

  2. Economics (EC1310 or EC1311)

  3. Genes and Society (BL1361)

Thus, they would have fulfilled the CFM & MC requirements in Year 1.

As for the 3 free choice CFMs, they can choose to take all from the approved list of CFMs offered by other faculties or; take all from the non-technical electives or; a combination of both.

If a student chooses to take CFMs from the approved list of free CFMs offered by other faculties, they can opt for pass/fail – provided the module has that option. However, a student cannot opt for more than 2 pass/fail CFMs throughout their candidature in NUS.

Non-technical Electives includes:

  • BZ1001 Management & Organization

  • EG1422 Financial Accounting

  • EG1501 Sociology

These modules are scheduled to suit the timetabling constraints of Engineering students. All 3 modules will all be graded and counted towards the Cumulative Average Point (CAP). Places are guaranteed for these modules.

AY2001/2002

Normal Stream Poly Student - direct admissions to Year 2
University Level Requirements

Students are supposed to fulfill :  

  • 2 General Education Modules (GEMs) (8MCs), of which 1 of them must be from Subject Group B: Humanities and Social Science and the other can be from either Subject Group A (Science and Technology) or Group B;

  • 1 Singapore Studies (SS) module (4MCs) – any 1 of the 4 NE modules (HY1101E or HY1202 or PS2101 or SE1101E) read in year 1 will be counted towards SS. This applies to Engineering students only.

Faculty Non-Technical module requirements

Students are to read 9 modules stated below:

  1. Critical Thinking & Writing [EG1413]

  2. A National Education Module

  3. Principles of Economics [EC1310]

  4. Genes and Society [BL1361]

  5. Law [EG1424]

  6. Human Resource Management [HR2001 or HR2002]

  7. }

  8. } 3 Free Choice Modules*

  9. }

*This will be satisfied through the 2 GEMs read for the University Level Requirements and 1 Cross Faculty Module (CFM).

If a student chooses to take the CFM from the approved list of CFMs offered by other faculties, they can opt for pass/fail provided the module has that option.

In case a student is unable to secure a place in CFM from other faculties, he can select 1 of the 3 modules below that are arranged by the Engineering faculty for students to fall-back on:

  1. BZ1001 Management & Organization or

  2. EG1422 Financial Accounting or

  3. EG1501 Sociology

These modules are scheduled to suit the timetabling constraints of Engineering students and places are guaranteed. They will all be graded and counted towards the Cumulative Average Point (CAP).

  4. National Education

  • Chemical and Environmental Engineering
