LaunchPad
is a new and exciting effort the intent of which is
to help inventors take their technology to market.
The newly formed Institute for Engineering
Leadership (IEL) is sponsoring a project to form
small teams of graduate and PhD students from
Business School and Faculty of Engineering to work
on selected NUS technologies through a semester long
project. The effort is organized as a course in
which students are guided to formulate assumptions
about parts of a business model, such as target
customers, value proposition, marketing channels and
manufacturing partners, and then test them in the
marketplace by talking to customers, industry
participants and potential partners. In this
project, students are essentially going through the
experience of building a company as start-ups do in
real life. They are challenged to get letters of
intent from customers rather than write a business
plan.
Inventor's role in the project is to provide
technical guidance to the team as they are getting
market feedback. Time commitment can be limited to a
weekly discussion with the team, in person or on the
phone, throughout the course. PhD students or
postdocs can represent a particular technology from
a lab in the team. Inventors are encouraged to spend
more time with the team as this team or part of it
might become the actual start-up team.
Please indicate your interest to have your
technology in the LaunchPad project by responding to
questions at this link:

creating large and sustainable companies based on
NUS technologies!
