    Mr Frankie Tan
    Adjunct Associate Professor

     


    Frankie has a thirteen-year career in technology and venture capital, and is the Managing Founder of Innovation Ventures.

    He was an Advisor for the Science and Engineering Division of Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd, Agency for Science and Technology Research (A*STAR). At Exploit Technologies, which is the commercialization arm of A*STAR, Frankie advises equity portfolio companies (spun-off from A*STAR) held by ETPL Investments, development and commercialization of emerging technologies in areas, such as, silicon photonics, ultra-wide band (UWB), MPEG-4 scalable to lossless technologies, and others. He currently serves as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence and is their nominee director on the boards of Commontown Pte Ltd and BLC Solutions Pte Ltd.

    Since January 2009, he is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Division of Engineering and Technology Management, National University of Singapore, Faculty of Engineering.

    Previously, he was Senior Vice President at Vertex Management, a Singapore-based international venture capital company. Frankie was involved with Vertex's European operations and was located in London where he was responsible for all Europe-based investment activities. During the first six years with Vertex Europe, Frankie was involved in more than 20 investments in France , Denmark , United Kingdom , Ireland and Belgium . In his last two years at Vertex, he was responsible for Vertex's investments in Singapore .

    Prior to joining Vertex in 1996, Frankie worked eleven years with Singapore Technologies (Marine) where he held various positions in sales, marketing and business development. He started his working career in 1978 with the Republic of Singapore Navy where he served for six and half years as a marine engineer. For his work performance in the Republic of Singapore Navy , he was awarded the Commendation Medal (Military) on 9th August 1981.

    Frankie is a Singaporean and holds Master of Science degrees in Financial Management (with Distinction) from the University of London, United Kingdom and in Strategic Management (Dean's Honours List) from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is also a graduate of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants in the United Kingdom , and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore.
