The Department of Civil Engineering invites applications for:
Research Fellow/Engineer Positions for a A*Star SERC funded Project on “Composite systems with ultra lightweight cement-based core for applications in extreme environment”
Assoc Prof Zhang Min-Hong
Department of Civil Engineering
The cold Arctic exposure is unique for both steel and concrete. The concretes are designed to be of high quality with low permeability and optimal entrained air. Major sources of problems are deterioration of structures due to repeated freeze-thaw cycles, abrasion and impact by ice. For floating structures, it is desirable that the concrete materials are of low self-weight. The aim of this project is to develop novel high-strength lightweight cement composites suitable for use as sandwich core in a steel-sandwich composite system. Over the past years, research effort has been channeled into development of such material with extreme high strength/weight ratio or high specific strength for structural applications.
- To conduct R&D work to develop ultra lightweight cement composite (ULCC),
- To study microstructure of the ULCC in order to optimize the materials,
- To experimentally evaluate the suitability of the ULCC developed for applications in extreme environment.
Research Fellow - the candidate should possess a postgraduate degree in Material Science and Engineering. Students who are about to complete Ph.D degree in the same discipline will also be considered. Favorable considerations will be given to applicants with relevant research experience. Foreign candidates are welcome to apply.
Research Engineer - the candidate should possess at least BEng degree in Material Science and Engineering or Civil Engineering. Favorable considerations will be given to applicants with relevant research experience. The position is only available to Singaporean or Singapore permanent resident of ASEAN origins.
