Biography

Dr. Xudong QIAN is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He graduated from NUS with a First Class Honours in Civil Engineering in 2000, and received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from NUS in 2005. Before joining NUS as a faculty member, Dr. Qian worked as a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign from 2006-2007, and as a practicing engineer in the Keppel Offshore and Marine Pte. Ltd. in 2005. He was also a visiting scholar in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 2004 and a visiting scholar in the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands in 2001.

Dr. Qian’s research interests cover a broad area in the offshore structural engineering, with particular emphasis on the following three aspects: nonlinear analysis of steel offshore platforms, cleavage fracture for ferritic steels in the ductile-to-brittle transition regime, and fatigue and fracture assessments for critical structural components.
