On behalf of the Organising Committee of the Sixth International Conference of Hydroinformatics (HIC2004), I wish to extend our invitation to you to participate in this rapidly growing field. The expanding field is witnessed by the significant jump in the number of participants and exciting papers presented in recent past conferences.

Hydroinformatics, a cross-disciplinary field of study, combines technological, human-sociological and more general environmental interests, including an ethical perspective. It covers the application of information technology in the widest sense to problems of the aquatic environment. Its aim is to equip managers and engineers working in water-related arenas, with available information and technology, to make rapid and robust decisions as they address the increasing challenges of ensuring a sustainable water environment and adequate water resources for generations to come.

HIC2004 marks the first time in which the Hydroinformatics Conference will be held in Asia.  This is a significant step in the continuous effort of three international associations (IAHR, IAHS and IWA) to actively promote and accelerate both research and applications of hydroinformatics in this part of the world.  The conference will serve as a perfect venue for researchers, scientists, engineers, and managers from Europe and North America to meet with their Asian counterparts to understand water related issues faced here.  At the same time, the meeting will serve as a catalyst for the Asian researchers, scientists, engineers and managers to play a more active role in this rapidly growing and exciting field.

Please block the period of 21 – 24 June 2004 for this exciting meeting in Singapore - a cosmopolitan country with a kaleidoscope of multi-ethnic cultures.   As your host, we will do our very best to make the conference a great success and your visit to Singapore a most memorable one.   Do, of course, incorporate your vacation plan with your family, before or after the conference, to visit the neighbouring countries full with lush tropical rainforest, exotic Asian cultures and cuisines.

See you in Singapore!
