RESEARCH ACTIVITIES


The research and development effort of the Centre focuses on six areas. The topics of interest in each area are:

  • Intelligent Transportation Systems - predictive traffic models for better management, problems of traffic congestion, traffic safety and fuel consumption;
  • Transportation Logistics - analytical models for analysis and design of logistics and transportation systems, with special focus on sea container terminal operations, air container operations, warehousing and distribution centre management, and land vehicular fleet (trucking and busing) management;
  • Transportation Infrastructure Management -- highway network and facility management, decision-making techniques, economic theories and models in the evaluation of transportation infrastructure.
  • Energy and Environment - energy use in the transport industry in Singapore, vehicle usage and fuel efficiency at vehicle operational and national level, social and economic impacts of transportation-related issues.
  • Planning and Public Policy - current national policies and strategies, directions of future growth and development in various modes of transportation, with special emphasis on shipping industry and commercial air transportation.
