| 1. | To serve as a university multidisciplinary research centre of excellence linking the faculties of Engineering, Medicine, Denistry and Science to carry out world-class research in biomaterials technology and to assist in the teaching and training of students/postgraduates in bioengineering. |
| 2. | To synergise in the development of an Asia-Pacific Concerted Action in Bioengineering so as to target the regional needs, set-up collaboration R&D network and link with industries. |

| 2. | Build on core enabling capabilities in Biomechanical Testing and Instrumentation, Biomaterials Processing and Device Fabrication and Computional Modelling and Design. |
| 3. | Encourage and concentrate effort in filling of patents, quality publications and organise international seminars/ conferences so as to build up world-class reputation. |
| 4. | Selective collaboration with local research institutions/centres/industries and world-class institutions. |
