NEWS RELEASE - Temasek Defence Systems Institute and
MEng in Defence Technology and Systems Programme
A new Master of Engineering in Defence Technology and Systems programme
will be launched in July 2002. Jointly taught by NUS and the Naval
Postgraduate School (NPS) in the United States, it will train the
next generation of military officers and defence technologists
required by MINDEF. The MINDEF-funded graduate programme is the
flagship project of the Temasek Defence Systems Institute (TDSI) to
be set up by NUS and NPS.
At the signing ceremony of the Statement of Intent for the TDSI on 11
July, Dr. Tony Tan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence
said, "The partnership between NUS and the NPS reflects how an
open collaborative approach can deliver win-win solutions. The TDSI
symbolises the shared vision of both NUS and NPS to offer the best
postgraduate education in defence technology and systems in the
world."
The 18-month programme will enrol 20 to 30 students. They will spend the
first six months at NUS and the second six months at NPS. Depending
on the students' research projects, the final six months may be at
either NUS or NPS.
The TDSI will also be a platform for research collaboration ,
strengthening NUS and NPS' shared objective to be leading research
institutions.
