Introduction

Leveraging on the success of the Specilization in Environmental Engineering launched on 1997 and upon the request of the students, the Department of Civil Engineering will launch the Minor in Urban Environmental Engineering Programme in July 2001. This programme is to provide a broad-based education in urban related environmental science and technology to prepare our students to undertake important and challenging tasks to protect our natural environment and to facilitate the infrastructure development on an environmentally friendly and sustainable platform.

Reclaimed water from domestic sewage

This programme has identified the related modules with inter-department as well as inter-faculty initiatives. Majority of the modules are selected from Department of Civil Engineering, while others are selected from the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, and Faculties of Law, Medicine and Science. The identified focuses in the programme are in Water and Wastewater Treatment; Water Reclamation and Recycling; Water Resource; Air Pollution and Control; Infrastructure Design; Environment Management and Law; Environmental Statistics; Environmental Biotechnology and Biostatistics.

Objectives

  • To promote an interdisciplinary education programme in Urban Environmental Engineering.
  • To provide the knowledge and know-how towards a balanced urban infrastructure design and planning.
  • To cultivate the capability of the students to manage and handle urban related problem
